Bad news regarding Marc Emery. (Crossposted from Politics Tribe)

Bad news I am afraid. It's about Mark Emery.

Marc Emery, a Canadian cannabis and libertarian activist, is considering a plea bargain to save his two friends from going to prison in the United States. In the following interview on CBC National News, Emery explains the situation.

The plea bargain will most likely sentence Marc to a five-year prison term. In consideration of possible incarceration, Emery is “thinking of embarking on a Farewell Tour across Canada to speak to the people one last time.” The following is the proposed schedule:

It’s difficult to explain what it means to witness our society condemn a human being for selling seeds to a plant. 1st mushroom trip- no enlightenment

EARLY EXPERIENCES

After picking up my best buddy Roger and loading up his backpack, we headed off to Harvey’s to pick him up and then we were off to the Shenandoah Mountains of Virginia each with 7 grams of psilocybin mushrooms. I had received these via the US postal service from a friend who was going to school out in Boulder, Colorado. This was summer of 1979. Harvey came loping down his front steps and his backpack looked comically small. He held it in one hand and it sort of swung effortlessly. He was 6ft 4” or 5” with broad shoulders, lanky more than thin. To me there was always something wolfish about him. To imagine his gate just recall one of those national geographic films of a wolf loping along the tundra and you have got it. We knew he was insane. One moment he would be looking down at us with his big, wolfish grin and the next he would be screaming obscenities and maybe ripping a car apart with his bare hands. In such a case, even if there were four more of us around him, no one dare lay a hand on him but we would just plead, “Harvey, cool it! Please man, chill out, its okay.” And usually we would be concerned about cops. “Please man stop tearing that car apart, that’s just uncool, that’s someone’s car, man! Harvey, please!” I never saw him once attack another human, only inanimate objects. We all understood at deep, unspoken level that the first one to lay a hand on him would most likely be beaten to death. Obviously, we didn’t believe that even three of four of us could stop him so all we could do is plead. He was a classic silent type but his silence hid an amazing intellect and a stunning artistic ability. He spoke, read and wrote fluently in Spanish and French. We might be debating some point of history and trying to recall who penned some euphemism and maybe after five minutes of stoned debate, he would drop the answer casually.
“Why didn’t you say something?” I would ask a little annoyed.
“You guys are funny,” he would grin.
And he played classic and flamingo guitar like Segovia himself, his enormous fingers flittering across the strings literally faster than the eye could see. He could do this seemingly with equal alacrity even after eating 500 mics of Acid.
As soon as I looked in his eyes, I knew.
“Harvey, what did you do?” I asked. It was maybe 8am in the morning. I had no experience with mushrooms but had done a good bit of Acid by then and he had those eyes.
He laughed. The laughter was long and deep and his eyes laughed even harder, bright as car beams, twinkling like stars in the clear night sky. His laughter went on and on crashing around us until becoming uncomfortable. Roger and I began to look nervously up and down the quiet, Saturday morning suburban street. This was now a familiar position for us to be with Harvey. I thought, well we’re off to a good start.
Finally Harvey managed to get out, “I already dropped it”.
Something about the way he said that was ominous. “Harvey,” I asked the way you might speak to five year old lost in a department store, “how much did you eat?”
“All of it.”
“Holy shit,” Roger exclaimed, “the whole 7 grams!”
My friend in Colorado had sent a warning with the mushrooms. He warned not to take more than 3 grams at a time. These were the same mushrooms that evidently had made one of his dorm mates insane after eating 4 grams. I had dutifully passed this warning on when I handed them out to both Roger and Harvey a couple days earlier. Our plan had been to eat them after backpacking into the wilderness and setting up a proper camp. Testosterone is a funny poison. Roger and I looked at each other meaningfully at one point and it didn’t even have to be said: we were going to eat all seven grams, too. After all, Harvey seemed to be full on at this point and he was doing okay and after all, he was insane and we were not.
Harvey insisted he could drive and even though he had demonstrated time and again that his driving was little more than Russian roulette in a car. He was hard to say no too so once again I let him drive. He really loved to drive. We went first to a 7-11 and Roger got some coffee and I got a Pepsi and after some debate we each got a donut. Then back in the car and one bite of mushroom, one bite of donut, wash it down and repeat. It took us maybe fifteen minutes to get down the whole 7 grams.
“These things taste like dirt,” Roger commented. This sent Harvey into another fit of laughter.
“You guys are such pussies,” Harvey admonished as we laboriously munched away on our mushrooms and donuts, bitter expressions on our faces, I’m sure. “I powdered mine in a coffee grinder and then wolfed down the whole thing with a glass of water.”
I couldn’t help but notice that he actually used the word, “wolfed”.
I directed Harvey to a location on the Maryland side of the C & O canal that was only a twenty minute drive from where we were. As preposterously irresponsible as all this was, I knew it was now out of he question to drive all the way to the mountains. I had never in my life camped or backpacked on the C & O canal but had day hiked there and knew that it was only a couple miles from this trailhead to a campground right on the Potomac River. Mainly, it was the closest place I could think to go that would get us away from the public and there was little traffic this time of morning which could only lessen our chances of a catastrophic automobile accident. Harvey drove with unusual alacrity as if the mushrooms somehow calmed him down. Once when tripping on LSD, I had driven home from work in Washington DC at 5am in the morning upside down the entire way. Once I accepted that the world was upside down, it was just like driving normally and I passed numerous police vehicles, all upside down as well, and they didn’t give a second glance. You don’t have to tell me that we have angels!
We parked near the C & O canal after driving down a long, gravel road. The last quarter mile felt like driving down through a maze as five foot high lines of bushes framed each side of the narrow road. I had an intense “body high” the likes of which I had never felt before – this would be my first – and only – “early” mushroom experience and I found it very different from LSD. LSD was much sharper, much more cerebral and very different from the soft, fuzzy body high I felt. I had heard that term, “body high” but had no idea what it meant until now. It reminded me of the time that I had “fluffed” 3 grams of hashish and then drank it all down in a gulp after steeping it in hot water a couple minutes. I recall bringing my Pepsi bottle to my lips and the bottle felt as if it were the size of a 80 gallon hot water heater and my lips and mouth were equally as large easily accommodating the gargantuan hole from which the Pepsi cascaded like the very flow of the Potomac river only a few hundred yards away. As I tilted the Pepsi bottle up, I could not understand why it did not bump into the top of the inside of the car – tilting it higher and higher as it emptied, very slowly and gently raising it, waiting for the top of it to bump into the inside of the roof and wondering why it never did. “That doesn’t make any sense,” I thought, “it’s not hitting the top of the roof”.
There were a few houses around and between the gravel parking area and the C & O canal was a stubbly, harvested corn field with six inch dry stalks sticking up in even rows. As soon as we got out, Roger ran into the field with a pint bottle of whiskey that he got from God knows where and he began to gleefully throw the bottle in an arch ahead of him and then chase it down, giggling like a child. Harvey put our Boom Box on top the car and cranked it up. I had a Doors tape in. Harvey was a music man and I looked uneasily at the houses nearby but did not dare to turn it down. I thought dreamily that we needed desperately to get our shit together and get away from here but instead Harvey and I stood watching Roger. It appeared that he was endlessly happy to throw the whisky bottle and retrieve it, laughing and giggling all the while. There was something beautiful about it, something so childlike and simple. Substitute a ball for the whisky bottle and he could have been six years old. I did not realize it but began to experience my first taste with the way time could squirm out of your grasp with the mushrooms. It was like trying to grasp a snake or get a firm grip on a water balloon.
This time phenomenon came to a crashing halt when I looked down the road and here came the silent flashing lights of a police car. I could not see the car at all but only the flashing lights. The lights seemed to be disembodied and sort of drifting along the top of the hedges that lined the road, those hedges perfecting hiding the body of the vehicle. At the same time that I thought clearly, “Oh, man we are so fucked,” I really wondered if I might not be having a mushroom inspired hallucination? When the disembodied lights finally turned magically into a full blown police cruiser pulling into the parking lot, it became instantly very real, indeed. The Doors were now blaring out, “Roadhouse Blues” and as the two cops stepped out of their vehicle, Jim Morrison was screaming out, “We’re going to the Roadhouse, we’re gonna’ have a R E A L good time”. It was only then that I thought to turn off the Boom Box, which I did of course by sort of punching it and nearly knocking it off of the roof of the car. It seemed my lot in life no matter who I was with was to be the one to inevitably interface with authorities when necessary and I assumed this role without a second’s thought.
Harvey stood towering over me grinning his now wolfish and maniacal grin and giggling softly, trying his best not to laugh. As the two offices slowly made their way to stand before us, one of them my size and one almost as large as Harvey only much more heavily built. He had that ease that a lot of big men had whereby they seemed to have nothing to prove and once you got past their massive frame, could often be found to be the most easy going men of all. So I instinctively addressed the smaller one. It did not help that Roger continued on throwing and chasing his whiskey bottle as if nothing at all were wrong. This was why Harvey could not stop giggling.
As I addressed the small one, the big yelled almost good naturedly at Roger, sort of the way a father might yell at his always mischievous boy, “Son, get over here right now!”
“Sir, I am so sorry to have to bring you officer’s out here,” I dove in head first, looking over at the nearest house, “we didn’t think anyone was home in that house or we wouldn’t have had that up so loud. We’re really sorry, Sir. We were just about to go on up the canal on a little backpacking trip.” And as I was speaking I was definitely thinking how hopeless was our situation and that I was about the experience my first night in jail. Roger sort of skipped over with his whisky bottle held unselfconsciously as if in his mind, he now really did think of it as simply a child’s red rubber ball. It was really hard to speak normally and at this moment I was experiencing a weird mushroom trick whereby instead of looking out at the two police standing before us, I was looking back at the three of us standing there before them exactly as if looking out from their eyes.
Man, you talk about a motley crew. We Stood now in a line along the side of the car facing the cruiser. Harvey with his 6.5 inch frame, me with my 5.9 inch frame and then Roger at six foot, whisky bottle held down now in both hands very casually in front of him. I was the only one without a shit eating grin on his face. I noticed how uncomfortably Harvey held his arms and then thought how I had not noticed this about him before; how his long, awkward arms always seem to be physically at unease, as if he didn’t quite know what to do with them if they were not holding a classical guitar. At first two things really stood out as I looked at us. One, our eyes were glowing with to me a very obvious drug induced brightness. It was as if I had just swung a flashlight beam onto three owls sitting in the dark. Two, the whisky bottle. I couldn’t tell which was more damning and my gaze jumped nervously from the whisky bottle to one or another set of our bedazzled eyes. This all transpired much quicker than the time it takes to read this paragraph, within seconds.
Then it hit me. I was looking at the whisky bottle from my perspective, not officer’s. It had taken every ounce of self discipline that I possessed not to stare at that bottle. In my mind, it was like a large sign that read: “Arrest us”. But suddenly I realized that the little pint bottle was the key to our fate at that moment. Wires reached out from that bottle attaching themselves to each of us. If you looked real close instead of tiny control numbers stamped upon these wires every few feet, there was the word, “fate” stamped there. Both officer’s assumed that we were high on whisky. This was odd because the bottle was full, Roger had not ever broken the seal on the tough little pint bottle. I guess they thought that we had already polished another bottle off by then. Hell, it was only 9:45 or 10am! Ridiculously, I felt a little insulted that they would take me for such an alcoholic.
It was what happened next that sort of caused my mind to disconnect.
The big one stood in front of Roger and looked him right in the eyes. “I know what is going on here, son. You can’t hide it from me.”
I thought of a father saying this to a son meaning that he “knew” that the son was gay – God only knows what weird connection led me to think this but this finally broke my composer and I couldn’t help but laugh. It was something about the way Roger looked at the cop, too. It just struck me as really funny.
Then he told us to gather up our stuff and get on down the canal. What? We did exactly this, opening the trunk and gathering up our packs quickly. They stood and watched, amused. The way you might watch a sitcom on TV. As we started off, the little one said helpfully, “better lock up the car, son”.
I hurried back the few feet and went around opening and locking the doors. Open door, wham smack down on lock button, open door , wham smack down on lock button. It seemed to take forever to get to the four doors. It was not real to me at anymore. Surely I was dreaming and again I was watching myself through their eyes. I did look far more like a buffoon than a criminal, especially scurrying nervously around the car – no remote locking devices in 1979. Maybe it was not entirely the whisky bottle that saved us. Maybe it was also our resemblance to the Three Stooges. Who could arrest the Three Stooges?
After the three of us were about a hundred feet away and about to cross the bridge over the canal, I whispered out of the side of my mouth to Harvey, “Is this real?”
He laughed.
“Goddammit, Is This Real,” I insisted, feeling a little like I was about to lose my mind.
Harvey glanced down at me. “It’s real, Dave”, he said flatly, not laughing this time.

Shit, I thought. None of us dared look back but I am sure they stood there until we disappeared up the canal. This was at a time when law enforcement and society in general had not yet accepted the true horror of drunk driving. The fact that we would not be driving seemed to be their main concern. Boys will be boys, they thought.
“They didn’t even take the whisky bottle,” I marveled to myself. I could not understand this for the life of me except that they were Park Rangers and not “real” cops and I knew that if we had not been on national park property, the story would have had a different and more predictable ending.
For me the whole thing was a real buzz kill, as they say. Maybe a quarter mile up the canal we engaged in a little high-fiving but my heart was not in it. I thought how you never really win a dancing contest with the devil and an uneasiness squatted uncomfortably in my belly the remainder of the day. It was raining ever so lightly but we never considered rain gear as the campsite was close and we figured just to set up tents and tarp when we got there. The only person we saw was an older fellow with big, black horn-rimmed glasses who engaged us briefly asking if we had seen any Beavers.
None of us could respond to this through our laughter and finally without responding to him at all, we continued on our way still laughing. I felt bad never liking to hurt someone’s feelings unnecessary but damn, “Beavers”. That was just too funny and we pretty much kept laughing at it until reaching the campsite.
Just about the time we reached the campsite the rain picked up a little to a medium hard but fine drizzle. Roger and I donned rain gear but Harvey did not. My backpacking habit is to set up my tent the moment I stop and as soon as I had my jacket on, I dug into my pack for my tent. I managed after much difficulty and time to get the tent out of my pack. It lay on the wet ground before me. I looked down at the nylon, tent poles askew, bag of tent stakes, cord snaking out in every direction from its various attachments to the nylon tent body and fly. It dawned on me after an indeterminate amount of time that I could no more set up that tent then successfully negotiate a trigonometry problem. It just was not going to happen. Finally I sat on the pile of nylon, pulled my hood up over my head and looked out at the wide, brown flowing waters of the Potomac River only twenty feet away.
Roger knelt almost on the bank looking out across the river. Harvey squatted near me and he was thoughtfully unraveling small leaf branches from a bush. It was late summer and everything was still very green except for the brown waters of the Potomac. I noted idly that Harvey’s arms did not look awkward now. Something about him seemed physically very composed and serene. He did not say a word but that was not unusual.
“I hate myself,” Roger announced out of no where, still staring out across the waters. He didn’t seem to be speaking to us so much as just speaking out loud to himself.
Well, at least one of us had a realization in all this, I thought. I couldn’t understand how the mood had turned so somber. We had miraculously survived the cops and even though raining it was really very beautiful out. If we could only get the tarp up, we could make a fire and enjoy camping by the river. I had never camped on the Potomac before. Maybe later after coming down I could actually figure out how to get my tent set up. The thought of hyperthermia crossed my mind as I watched Harvey worry his leaf and sticks, slowing getting soaked by the fine but constant drizzle. No, it was a good seventy five degrees out and that shouldn’t be a problem. There was no wind and the drizzle fell straight down. At some point I asked them if either of them could set up their tents or at least our tarp. This set Harvey into another long bout of laughter which was an answer in itself. Roger and I finally decided that we should go back, discretion the better part of valor and all that. On the way back we ran into the Beaver guy again.
“Have you seen any Beaver?” Roger managed to get out before convulsing again in laughter which of course set us all off. The Beaver guy pushed his horn-rimmed glasses up onto the bridge of his nose but didn’t’ say anything and stood aside, still and silent, giving us a wide birth, the way any experienced backpacking might do if horses were coming down the trail. As we passed him he pointed out to me politely that my tent was dragging behind me in the mud of the C & O canal. Sure enough when we all turned to look fully two thirds of my tent was not in my backpack but dragging behind me. This made us laugh even harder and again we could not even speak to the Beaver guy. Most unlike me as I am typically almost meticulous about my backpacking gear, unlike anything else in my life. It dragged behind all the way back to the car where I stuffed the pack and whole muddy mess into the trunk and we quickly and unceremoniously drove out of there.

Soul Union - Mushroom Tantra

I've had a few lifechanging experiences with psilocybe cubensis, my first two provoked what I can only describe as tantra. The first time I've eaten godflesh was my 18th birthday, late at night with a blissful family of friends. A bit after people went to thier bedrooms I still couldn't sleep and decided to bunk on the mattress with a single guy. He and I began copulating in an amazingly slow manner while our trip continued to escalate. Our bodies flowed like every particle of our beings was meant to mesh together. Initially, my mind was full of 'OH, God, this is perfect sex! This is what they mean!' We continued to breathe and operate on the godjuice, perfectly in sync with each other and gravity. Gradually my mind filled with what seems like every thought and emotion ive experienced, until they became realized as One, then there was only the moment, oxygen, the sun that would never rise; I felt I'd experienced a satori. On a side note a ,week after that enlightening experience, I was listening to Tool's 'Lateralus' and contemplating Alex Grey paintings; and I felt, energetically, like Id understood what the paintings were portraying, followed by my head lolling back and what felt like a 'full body orgasm' taking over, which I found out was a kundalini uprising. The second time I imbibed the mushroom sacrament was just after I graduated highschool, a friend and I were sitting in the park, blissfully enjoying each others conscious company, letting the mushrooms kick in as we basked in the amazement of each others awareness and playfully trying to cross our eyes in a manner that lets us visualize each others third eye. Our conversation became more of a completion of each others thoughts, that click and understanding, until there came a moment where we both felt the same thing, we were conscious of the Us consciousness, I and You melted away. The first click was a brief with a moment of confusion, sort of like 'What was that?' 'There is no 'Was', and We became I again. To keep up our connection it felt as if I would push us further along the spiral and he would pull with the energy of what hed learned, teaching my consciousness something to digest so i could in turn power level us deeper. The whole night our internal and external enviroment was a conscious syncronicity, we felt this is exactly what we should be doing, this is what we pine for, this satisfies every metaneed. The clearest thing that was communicated was him telling me that hed never truly experienced love and was abused as a child, and I could feel exactly how bad it was and cried with direct empathy. The timeless hours had worn out our energy by sunlight, throughout the night to continue stimulating the connection it had degraded a bit because we needed physical manipulation of each other for serotonin drive, still clothed, a pure form of bodywork, pure tantra, occasionally needing an affectionate touch on bare skin. In the moments when the connection was weak it was because we would admit to desire, usually 'lets smoke', but we both knew it was a stoners neurotic impulse and continued to grace the Us until we didnt have enough energy at all, barely enough to force ourselves to find his glasses. At one of those weak moments, his eyes were shut and I could see that his Third eye was open. We have grown apart a bit as friends since then. I took mushrooms with him again the day before yesterday, and massaging his back I still felt I knew his energy, I knew his body and the tensions that formed his muscles. I got really into the massage and it sunk us into a mild trance. The mushrooms as usual were very cathartic, so at one point I broke down sobbing on him because of the pining I felt for the connection to another conscious being again. Today I had a few syncronicities and broke through my depression with the acknowledment that God is conscious and satisfies every need one could have if I let go of desire, and the realization that someday I'll lose the feeling of separateness either through physical or ego death.

Thinking about The Machine

THE MACHINE

What is The Machine? It is a construct of our collective human consciousness. Even though It is a part of each of us, as we are of each other, The Machine is autonomous. One of the primary manifestations of The Machine we call The Free Market Economy. The Machine is the collective embodiment of our human greed and fear, our collective psychosis, and just as violent as psychotics can be! Think of it as a dissociative aspect of our collective human ego. The most important fact to know about The Machine is: It is an extrapolation of some natural biological mechanism providing for suicide of mutant, individual cells; a collective suicide Machine designed by our sociology from our biology and operating at a new, macro level via our human social system and our unique human consciousness, society, defined by technology and learning. The Machine has only one purpose and that is to destroy humanity. Right now The Machine has been building momentum for a long time and as it ravages us throughout the world as I write, The Machine has only one mind and one thing on Its mind and that is simply to destroy us all. Why? Because The Machine somehow – like the mutant individual cell – knows at a global level that we are basically an errant, dangerous mutation and must be stopped.
If It could, The Machine would simply pull the trigger on us all. Since It is disembodied, It cannot and so must take us out by an intelligent, seductive persuasion of our basest instincts. This mass suicide of our species may in Its throes wreck havoc upon much if not all of the earth, consistent with lack of consideration so often shown by suicides. In fact, this is already happening. Even if humans were magically beamed out by Scotty up on the Enterprise in-masse this very instant, the species extinction that we have produced by our exploitive and short sighted practices would continue on destroying this planet without us for decades into the future. I think this one fact alone if kept in mind when considering that in reality we are over 6 billion strong and growing exponentially on this earth with no Scotty in sight, should really help put things in perspective. Our perspective is just all fucked up. Part of what this means is that The Machine does not even need us because It rampages alone, destroying purely to destroy with no reason or menace or even awareness – on the one hand, It is the opposite of us, a mindless destroyer. On the other hand, It is the same as us, a mindless destroyer. I am tempted to assert morality into this and say that we should never have let evil get out of control like this. I doubt that is really very helpful. We will fail because we as a species failed to fit into our place here on this planet. Our destiny was to become the protective and guiding Over mind of the planet but instead we chose to because frightened, blusterous exploiters of the world that we are – we failed, made a big mistake, blew it.
Here is another very important aspect of The Machine. It is not human. It is not subject to human feelings, certainly not to dreams and hopes. So It is not subject to what we would consider normal, human appeals – say, such as we may dare to request even of a despotic human leader. It has no relationship to us – when we cut ourselves off from nature, The Machine cut Itself off from us. That is when it was born. That is how ancient a monster this Machine really is. And it is a monster such that we can say full and well that “we have created a monster”. With technology, agriculture, language we hunter gather bands of humans really exploded – populations exploding overnight and dependant upon local resources for survival forming enormous “hive” like city state structures with suddenly 10,000 closely cohabitating individuals working collectively on a multitude of highly coordinated tasks, with divisions of labor and a hierarchical social structure of familial fascist control. Failure of this kind of city state “tribe” involved not just a few dozen lives but many thousands of lives.
Yes, the Machine is Fascist. Everywhere you find The Machine, you find fascism. The Shakespearean tragedy of our human natures, our greatest weakness as a species, is the deal we made to facilitate that explosion caused by technology. The dirty little secret of how we humans act in the big city; a biologically rooted system of fascist social control. We human animals are designed to act for the good of all, or the dearth of all. So is a bee. What we have is our big old frontal lobe to add into the equation, really mixing things up! We were destined to be fascists. That innate desire to maintain the status quo exactly relative to how precious the status quo is to us as individuals, is part of our bee-like social system allowing us to function in such numbers and with such complexity. The idea that there is a self regulating system in our species for inducing individuals to undertake behavior good for the group is key. Our social structure – including language and even technology – comes from our biology, not the other way around. How do you suddenly shift the behavioral system of a species in such a way that small tribes of 50 to no more than 150 individuals of hunter gathers can function socially within agrarian city states numbering in the tens of thousands of individuals. The question is mind boggling and seems impossible when looked at in this manner. Fascism seems to be mechanism we humans employ to accomplish this momentous feat. I would suggest that our familial tribal structure and our hierarchical status seeking behavior as well as this inclination to self regulating status quo maintenance are the major underlying reasons behind the fact that fascism flowered with our numbers.
So most of us being Followers are going to tend to “go with the flow”, as it were. What that “flow” means is defined by the relative minority of dominant members in our society. How “they” become dominant is flexible – like the many different types of languages but what is not flexible is our unique, animal social structure, corresponding to human grammar, which is hard wired. Who becomes dominant does seem to often involve familial connections – even in the 21st century we speak here in America of the “Bush Dynasty”, and it is hardly a joke, reflecting a much deeper reality than we generally acknowledge. What I am saying is that The Machine was created from all that is human but that It has transcended all that is human. The Machine has taken the helm of this Ship of Fools from what would be our natural Alpha leadership and It careens out of control. I do not think now that any level of cooperative effort could stop this Machine because it has crossed some unthinkable threshold and exists now beyond the confides of our humanity and possibly even this mighty planet. No leader will arise to challenge The Machine. No Nation State or alliance of Nation States will arise to challenge The Machine. No corporate entity whatsoever could possible challenge this Machine.
It is our innate tendency toward fascism that is perhaps the unfortunate key to it all. Those unethical studies from the fifties that appalled us all by showing how cruel we could be given fairly innocuous circumstances, such as a man in white coat insisting that we “shock someone”. Maybe we drew the wrong lesson from that. We definitely drew back from it in horror of ourselves, evidently some aspect of our humanity preferring to think of us as more democratic and compassionate than perhaps we really are? The reason that we reacted the way that we did is that we are fascist literally down to the bone. Of course we shocked innocent people simply because an authority figure told us to do it. This is how exactly we got here today. If we had said, “no, absolutely not!” when the man in the white coat told us to shock another innocent human, those early city states would have either never formed in the first place or collapsed in chaos. Our social system in this regard is exactly like a conduit for energy, in this case a conduit between we humans and our new found technology. Without this fascist social system, our whole 10,000 years of civilization would have simply fizzled. Who the authority figure is, is flexible; that there is an authority figure is not flexible but a key aspect of our animal social structure. What is also key is our hard wired social obedience to our collectively chosen status quo. It is just our nature to listen to the man in the white coat, whoever that man may be!

Human history represents such a radical break with the natural systems of biological organization that preceded it, that it must be the response to a kind of attractor, or dwell point that lies ahead in the temporal dimension. Persistently western religions have integrated into their theologies the notion of a kind of end of the world, and I think that a lot of psychedelic experimentation sort of confirms this intuition. I mean, it isn't going to happen according to any of the scenarios of orthodox religion, but the basic intuition, that the universe seeks closure in a kind of omega point of transcendance, is confirmed.

It's almost as though this object in hyperspace, glittering in hyperspace, throws off reflections of itself, which actually ricochet into the past, illuminating this mystic, inspiring that saint or visionary, and that out of these fragmentary glimpses of eternity we can build a kind of map, of not only the past of the universe, and the evolutionary egression into novelty, but a kind of map of the future.

This is what shamanism is always been about, a shaman is someone who has been to the end, it's someone who knows how the world really works, and knowing how the world really works means to have risen outside, above, beyond the dimensions of ordinary space, time, and casuistry, and actually seen the wiring under the board, stepped outside the confines of learned culture and learned and embedded language, into the domain of what Wittgenstein called the unspeakable, the transcendental presense of the other, which can be abstracted, in various ways, to yield systems of knowledge which can be brought back into ordinary social space for the good of the community.

So in the context of ninety percent of human culture, the shaman has been the agent of evolution, because the shaman learns the techniques to go between ordinary reality and the domain of the ideas, this higher dimensional continuum that is somehow parallel to us, available to us, and yet ordinarily occluded by cultural convention out of fear of the mystery, I believe. And what shamans are, I believe, are people who have been able to decondition themselves from the community's instinctual distrust of the mystery, and to go into it, to go into this bewildering higher dimension, and gain knowledge, recover the jewel lost at the beginning of time, to save souls, cure, commune with the ancestors and so forth and so on.

Shamanism is not a religion, it's a set of techniques, and the principal technique is the use of psychedelic plants. What psychedelics do is they dissolve boundaries, and in the presence of dissolved boundaries, one cannot continue to close one's eyes to the ruination of the earth, the poisoning of the seas, and the consequences of two thousand years of unchallenged dominator culture, based on monotheism, hatred of nature, suppression of the female, and so forth and so on. So, what shamans have to do is act as exemplars, by making this cosmic journey to the domain of the Gaian ideas, and then bringing them back in the form of art to the struggle to save the world.

The planet has a kind of intelligence, that it can actually open a channel of communication with an individual human being. The message that nature sends is, transform your language through a synergy between electronic culture and the psychedelic imagination, a synergy between dance and idea, a synergy between understanding and intuition, and dissolve the boundaries that your culture has sanctioned between you, to become part of this Gaian supermind, I mean I think it's fairly profound, it's fairly apocalyptic.

History is ending. I mean, we are to be the generation that witnesses the revelation of the purpose of the cosmos. History is the shock wave of the eschaton. History is the shock wave of eschatology, and what this means for those of us who will live through this transition into hyperspace, is that we will be privileged to see the greatest release of compressed change probably since the birth of the universe. The twentieth century is the shudder that announces the approaching cataracts of time over which our species and the destiny of this planet is about to be swept.

If the truth can be told so as to be understood, it will be believed.

The emphasis in house music and rave culture on physiologically compatible rhythms and this sort of thing is really the rediscovery of the art of natural magic with sound, that sound, properly understood, especially percussive sound, can actually change neurological states, and large groups of people getting together in the presence of this kind of music are creating a telepathic community of bonding that hopefully will be strong enough that it can carry the vision out into the mainstream of society. I think that the youth culture that is emerging in the nineties is an end of the millenium culture that is actually summing up Western civilization and pointing us in an entirely different direction, that we're going to arrive in the third millenium, in the middle of an archaic revival, which will mean a revival of these physiologically empowering rhythm signatures, a new art, a new social vision, a new relationship to nature, to feminism, to ego. All of these things are taking hold, and not a moment too

Biblical use of Magic-Mushrooms

Hell-Low from Heaven-High: I am author/publisher of MANNA the book documenting the Biblical use of Magic-Mushrooms. I hope I can find some friends here who share my interest.

Manna is the food-from-heaven provided by God to Israelites in the wilderness, according to the Bible the Israelites are said to have eaten Manna
My book Manna explores the evidence that Christ was the leader of a Pagan Cult teaching a renaissance of an ancient Egypt Mysticism kept secret by an elite caste of priests within the Jewish Rabbis until such a time as Christ came and taught it to the masses, resulting in accusations of blasphemy and the crucifixion of the first Christians.

Exodus 16:14-24 indicates that Manna was inevitably a mushroom.
It was a small round thing in the morning dew, it bred larva, and would melt to mush if not dried. King James Version.
All “wild” mushroom pickers know that mushrooms are most notorious for being infested with worms. This is because flies worldwide of all varieties lay their eggs up into the gills, which then hatch causing the larvae/worms to crawl out as the mushroom matures.

Daniel 5:3-5 with Exodus 16:32 and Hebrews 9:4
indicates that the mushroom was a drug. After sacking the temple in Jerusalem and stealing the Ark-of-the-Covenant, the King of Babylon and his table drank from the golden cup containing the holy “Manna” they had visions within the hour. Psilocybin mushrooms take 30-40 minutes to induce visions.

Hebrews 9:4 makes it clear that Manna was the most holy thing to Israelites, kept in a Pot-Of-Gold in the Ark Of The Covenant, in the Most Holy Of Holys. So sacred is the Manna that only the High Priest has access to it, and only on one day of the year Yom Kippur, which comes 3 days before the harvest moon AllHallowsEve.

Psalm 78:24-25 calls Manna Food Of Angels, just as Mayan/Inca Priests from Meso-America called it Teonanacatl Food Of The Gods.
Manna is an Egyptian word, not Hebrew or Aramaic, meaning;
The Bread of God. This is what Moses called it in Exodus 16:15.
“Bread Of God” means Food-Of-God, which is the same meaning of Teonanacatl (Mayan), and Ambrosia Greek, and Soma Hindu a word for mushroom tea, all these words mean “Spiritual Food”.
Coca and Tobacco Leaves found in Pharaohs tombs suggest it was ancestors of Mayan/Inca Priests who brought mushrooms to Egypt.

John 2:6-9 indicates that Jesus made water into wine by boiling mushrooms Mushroom-Tea, the waterpots were made of stone, not clay, stone pots were used for cooking, clay pots used for storing water. These pots already contained 2-3 firkins of a substance before the pots were filled with water.
A Firkin is an Old-English measurement meaning a fourth part. Half to three-quarters of fresh mushrooms with water makes a potent tea. Tea is the safest way to consume field mushrooms, killing dangerous bacteria like E. Coli. In the Atharva Veda, the Hindus called this Tea Soma. Greeks called mushroom jelly Ambrosia.
Those who drank the water made into wine said it was the most potent intoxicant St. John 2:10. The Bible tells us that Jesus making water into wine was the “beginning of miracles” … in other words no one saw any miracles until drinking the wine made from water. St. John 2:11.

Certainly for the Israelites Egypt was the origin of Manna, which explains why all the Patriarchs of Israel were educated in Egypt, Moses, Christ, and Joseph The favorite son of Israel, were all educated in Egypt. Solomon married Pharaoh’s daughter, and Abraham found his God at a place called Shechem, which is another Egyptian word for Manna.

Ambrosia or Broma-Theon [Greek]
Manna [Egyptian, Israelite]
It can be no coincidence that the Mayan, Egyptian, Greek, Hindu, and Israelite words for the mushroom all mean exactly the same thing: The Bread Of God.

Manna was round, was found on the ground in the dew, would melt to mush if not dried or collected on time, and would breed larvae. All unique characteristics of mushrooms. When dried it was like “wafers of bread” and it’s color was like “coriander seed”, the consistency and color of dried mushrooms, as described in Exodus Ch. 16.

non-psilocybe mushroom hunt 3/25

On Saturday 3/25 at 1pm a mushroom identification hike will leave from the los trancos open space preserve, in Palo Alto, CA.

Everyone is invited to scour the woods in search of all kinds of mushrooms.

You will probably learn to identify:

* Golden Chanterelles
* Black Chanterelles
* Candy Caps
* Blewits
* Psilocybe cyanescens (from the book only, per uncle sam's recommendation)
* Hedgehog mushrooms
* Bears Head
* Oyster mushrooms

and other interesting and useful plants and mushrooms which grow deep in the woods surrounding the bay area.

We will meet at 1pm at this park, in the parking lot on the north side of page mill road (on your right if you are coming from 280):

We will leave this location at 1:15 pm, so don't be later than that. If you are later, show up anyway and look for a group of people in the woods along the fault trail.

There will be a few miles of off trail hiking on steep hillsides, so don't wear any clothing you don't mind getting dirty.

Dress kind of warm. Bring some water, maybe a little food, and a backpack.

The hike will go until it gets dark, though late comers and early leavers are welcomed.

It has been raining for a couple weeks, and I have recently verified that there are plenty of mushrooms in these woods. But the rainy season is almost over and this is probably the last big mushroom hunt until October.

Directions:

Take I-280 to Page Mill Road. Go west on Page Mill Road for 7 miles. Los Trancos Open Space Preserve will be located on the right across from the Monte Bello Open Space Preserve. The mushroom hunt will meet in the parking lot on the right (north) side. Parking is available for 20 vehicles. Additional parking and restroom facilities are available at the Monte Bello Open Space Preserve parking.

How do I evolve - Part II

Another fundamental evolutionary theme which I've been thinking about recently is
B - A - L - A - N - C - E.

The idea of balance makes a lot of sense to us and we know it generally seems like a 'good' thing.

But what does it mean?

What are the polarities which require balance?

1) Masculine and Feminine -

The sexual polarity is perhaps the most obvious. We all embody both masculine and feminine energies. In recent decades it's become socially acceptable and even desirable for men to express greater femininity and women to express greater masculinity. But is this all there is to re-balancing male and female energies within us?
Last week I discovered what femininity was. I am a woman and I have lived on this planet in this form for nearly twenty eight years and last week I realised that I still didn't know what femininity truly was. What I knew about femininity was what had been taught to me by society, the education system and most of all, the media. Because most of these were controlled by men as I was growing up (and still are pretty much today) the image and flavour of femininity presented to me was femininity from the perspective of the male. Why else did feminine equate with sexual whenever I encountered this concept presented in the world? What happened the other week was that I entered a building in Glastonbury known as the Goddess Temple and was utterly struck by how the energy, feeling, and vibrations inside were truly feminine but in such a different way to that which I had experienced before. The experience was overwhelming and I was almost reduced to tears. It felt so natural and beautiful but it was so refreshingly different to anything I had come across before. I am not saying that femininity has nothing to do with sex - of course it is sexual. The images in this goddess temple were of naked women baring their breasts in their full glory and beauty. But what was presented here was the feminine perspective of femininity. Not femininity in relation to masculinity. Women's true _expression of womanhood, rather than the presentation of the woman from a man's world which is inevitably going to have something to do with his sexual interest and power in relation to it.
This revelation has been so refreshing and since completing a sweat lodge which also I think helps to balance masculine and feminine energies by connecting the being (mind - heart -body) back with nature and the elements in a very primal way - I have really felt much more comfortable with this balance of energies in my being.
What I am saying is that it's easy to take for granted that you already know what these different energies are. It's easy to think 'I already know that. I know what masculinity is, I know what femininity is.' But I challenge you to ask this 'How do you know? Where have these ideas come from? Is there more to learn? Do you sense any gaps in your knowledge?' If so, and if you are open and willing to explore and discover more, have this intention and the opportunities to do so will come your way, naturally.
I hope both men and women will be able to express increasingly what it means to be masculine and to be feminine from both perspectives because I feel we still have a great deal to learn and explore in this respect.

2) Light and Dark/Positive and Negative -

Having explored various spiritual philosophies I have sometimes found an imbalance or bias towards 'light' or 'positivity' in which so called 'negative' energies are seen as 'bad' and to be avoided or strictly controlled. Whilst this technique can be interesting and useful to study and practise, in my experience it fails to adequately acknowledge and make use of the more dynamic, creative and deep-rooted energies such as anger, fear, pain, shame, guilt and their associated expressions and patterns within behaviour. Exploring and having the space and safety to express these often deep and intense energies can be immensely liberating and in my own experience can aid (re)connectivity within the mind-heart-body complex. There is also a fascinating creative potential contained in these shadows of our being. If we in tune with ourselves and are balanced between the light and the dark, we can safely explore the darkness for the purposes of self-insight, tool-making and creative excavation. There's a reason why we're fascinated with the dark side - it's energies excite us and this excitement does not need to reflect social malaise or lack of morality. It reflects, I believe, the energy it contains which can be used, if we so chose, for our growth and evolution.

3) Mind - Heart - Body -

We are so very good at being logical in the West. So knowledgeable and rational. We can even rationalise away our own neuroses. The mind is very clever and we now have so much information at our disposal about just about anything imaginable that it's hard to know what knowledge to pursue and what to ignore. Not only is this choice difficult, but we are continually being bombarded with data which gets unwittingly impregnated into our neurons day in, day out without even realising it. Science has become the new religion, logic the new path, 'sanity' the safety box and the measuring stick with which to draw lines between what makes sense to us and what doesn't in an ever more scary world.
When you're running naked through the trees and dancing round a tribal fire, it's odd how all this is completely forgotten. Funnily enough, the mind suddenly turns off and something else kicks in - something which feels great and so so liberating. The heart and the body. We have become so individualistic, so crowded, so crammed full of data and so pre-occupied that something has happened to the large majority of us living and working in the modern western world. We have forgotten how to feel. We have forgotten our connection with nature, with the earth and to see how this connection leads to the realisation that we are actually the same thing. We ARE nature. Literally. We don't own the earth, we ARE the earth. This might make some kind of logical sense to you as you are reading these words but this sense means almost nothing if you don't E X P E R I E N C E this to be so. Experience is the password into your true being. Experience is the passport into evolution. But you cannot experience fully if you're still holding on to past pain, trauma, stress, anxiety, fear, guilt, shame, and defence mechanisms. We can go to counselling and talk about all these things and this can certainly help, but until we FEEL these parts of ourselves fully, until we feel them truly and deeply within our hearts and deep down into the cells of our bodies, we cannot move past them into liberation. Liberation is not a mental phenomenon. It is a total, whole, complete experience which resonates through every inch of your body. We came from the mud and the trees and the caves and then reasoned ourselves away into separation. This process is now moving full circle and the inevitable way forward is back the way we came - except this time nature is fully aware of herself.

How do I evolve?

If you do, how do you do it?

No doubt you have already mastered astral travel, astrology, chakra healing, crystal healing, herbalism, mayan technology, past life regression, permaculture, psychedelic journeying, psycho-sexual therapy, reiki, shiatstu, shamanism, tibetan buddhist philosophy, transcendental meditation, yoga and the list goes on and on and on - and that's brilliant - these are fantastic techniques.

But now that we have all these glorious tools, what do we do with them?

What shall we build?

What do we need to create?

What do we need destroy to make room for this?

What personal sacrifices do I need to make for this to happen?

What, really, is important to me, and what really isn't?

What do I really want? What do I really believe in?

For many people these won't be relevant questions, but for increasing numbers of us, they are becoming so important that we are willing to make the necessary sacrifices. Our hearts are aligned. Our minds are attuned. We ReAlise what is important in this life time, and what isn't. The thing which seems to me to be the real stumbling block is action. Inputting all this goodness that we are into reality for our wider communities to see and share and learn from. Although all internal work we do automatically benefits everyone else, I think the kind of changes needed to re-balance and heal our planet will be more radical than anything we have seen before. We need to shift the value paradigms of our cultures from numbed, disillusioned, cynical, materialist, consumerist, 'Democracy Ltd'-brainwashed, powerless and confused robot-monkey-slaves to energised, illuminated, inspired, curious, questioning, re-awakened human beings who can rekindle some glimmer of hope to see a possibility, a realistic practical and tangiable reality.

Some fundamental principles needed to achieve this goal are;

- Intensive and ongoing individual work with yourself - continually exploring, questioning, experiencing, opening, seeing, re-wiring, dismantling old, creating new and, above all, knowing what it is YOU want and following that over and above anything else.

- Collaboration. On a scale which spans and transcends geographic boarders and belief system. We currently have thousands of groups dispersed all over the globe saying essentially the same things but limiting their own power by maintaining their belief systems rather than pooling resources, skills and energies to unify goals. It's becoming increasingly clear we all want the same things, we just need to use the same language, organise and work very very hard together.

- Communication to bridge the energy into the wider community. This is what it all comes down to in the end. We might find it relatively easy to see sense in these values, to live our lives differently and to understand these new emerging languages, but we must continually look to the wider community. We must understand how we can connect and communicate in ways which wide varieties people with different backgrounds, values and beliefs can access and understand. To output what we learn, gain, and grow to others, we must be careful not to fall into the trap of alienating ourselves, creating a divide to protect our egos, and using jargon which intimidates and separates us further from those we want to communicate with. As more and more people see that what we are saying is essentially what we all want anyway - health, freedom, space, a clean planet, real democracy, unbiased education systems and social structures which directly enable these to evolve - then the momentum and power which is needed to successfully challenge the current paradigm can be achieved.

- Creation. This is as aspect of individual, collaborative and communicative work. It is art, freedom, heart and passion. It is the force of evolution. It's what you want, what you want to do with others and how you want to express yourself to the world. Without creation there is no progression. Therfore we will be forever creating and re-creating.

I can't think of any better reason to live. Even if I had children, I wouldn't want to bring them into the depleting withering filthy toxic greed-obsessed planet which we have right now. How could I do that and then sit back and let their bodies become increasingly poisoned by the air, food, water and information which gets vomited out each second by a few fat coorporations which own most of the planet but have the mentality of a herd of psychopaths?

shroom detectives

i read that an indigenous use of mushrooms was to determine theft of something or who had commited a crime in a tribe. Has anyone come across more on this either in the past or in the present?
