The story so far… Our government is currently finalizing plans to outlaw any fungi which contains psilocin, with clause 21 of the proposed drug bill. This will take away your existing right to participate in an activity known to be less harmful than other legal drugs. The MMCG aims to protect your rights as a consumer. Psilocybe Mushrooms: Currently legal to grow, pick, eat and sell in a fresh and natural condition. Prepared mushrooms become class A drug. If this new legislation is passed, they will be illegal in any condition, possession and supply will be punishable by up to a lifetime in prison.

Magic Mushrooms and other psilocybe mushrooms, including all psilocin-containing fungi, have long been proven to be a safe and non-toxic recreational drug. For the past thirty years, fresh, unprepared psilocybe mushrooms have been legal to possess in the UK. Recently, the Home Office advised the public that the sale and possession of psilocybe mushrooms was not an offence under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971. Consequently, the sale of fresh psilocybe mushrooms has grown considerably since this statement. Recently, the UK government has moved to outlaw completely the possession or sale of psilocybe mushrooms. The Drugs Bill currently before the house contains the clause;
"Inclusion of mushrooms containing Psilocin etc. as Class A drugs
In Part 1 of Schedule 2 to the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 (c. 38) (Class A drugs),
in paragraph 1, insert at the appropriate place—
“Fungus (of any kind) which contains Psilocin or an ester of Psilocin.”"
This clause would render any psilocin containing fungi illegal.
The Undersigned are virulently opposed to the inclusion of this clause in the Bill. Psilocybe mushrooms, which have been used recreationally by humans for millennia, and have been used recreationally within Britain for the last thirty years without any public disturbance or detriment recorded, with no cases of psilocybe poisoning on record, are not a dangerous product.
There is a huge body of research to support the conclusion that psilocin-containing fungi are not hazardous to human health. The Undersigned have read and support the research linked to below.

The Undersigned are shocked and scared by the move to outlaw a provably safe group of fungi. They petition the Home Office to follow its own mission statement of "Building a safe, just and tolerant society" by not outlawing a group of fungi with no evidence to suggest any harm caused by the legal status of these fungi.
Do not ban unprepared psilocybe fungi based on ignorance or fear.

Mon, February 21, 2005 - 7:27 AMIf our govenment keeps on like this it will become illegal to breath air and walk on grass. I often wonder why our society is so fearful of that which it does not understand. Ignorance is so deeply ingrained in our modern world . . . spose those of us who are here to raise awareness about important issues would be out of a job ;-) ah well . . . hey, do you think that folk who find these shrooms growing in their garden will be imprisioned? It will be amusing to see this clause 21 enforced!

Heres an update:
Clause 21 recieved royal assent on the 7th of april,
and it WILL now become law.
We are awaiting a message from the home office as to a date of commencement.
As a counter strike, the EDF (Entheogen Defence Fund) has been set up to seek a judicial review and we are fundraising for this.
We have appointed a solisitor and counsel,
and we hope to halt the implementation of clause 21.
We will be joining the cannabis rally on sunday 15th of may,
and hope to have a mushroom march on the 5th of june.
There is a new electronic petition acceptable by downing street,
all details are on the EDF site.

Sat, May 27, 2006 - 12:15 PMI'm so gutted that these haven't been illegaized. Since this act was passed, I haven't been able to get hold of any. Out of all drugs, mushrooms cause the least amount of harm & I believe that more harm will be caused due to people picking mushrooms from the wild w/o substancial information, therefore picking poisonous shrooms by mistake

Most of us do not even know that we are in a purely fascist regime, often believing that we are in a representative democracy. Here the heel of a boot or the butt of a rifle is not even necessary - TV and advertising - and perhaps most perversely of all the media - have rendered the traditional means of fascist control passe. Substances like psilocybin and marijuana are strickly controlled - they lead directly to democratic and individualist thinking - cannot have that. Take my advice - learn to make spore prints and make a lot, they last forever. Good luck to y'all.
